Programme design
Altius works in partnership with its clients.
This enables us to design the most appropriate private equity investment programme and a realistic investment timetable for each client. Performance benchmarks are identified to measure the success of the programme, taking into account the investor’s long-term funding requirements and target overall returns.

Manager selection
Proactive identification of desirable managers takes place prior to active fundraising.
Many of the best managers do not need to raise capital from new investors and their fund raisings will not be known to the market. Altius seeks to identify upfront the best managers in each sector and to get to know them well in advance of any fund raising.

Private equity's opportunistic nature leads Altius to constantly re-evaluate its approach by undertaking substantial proprietary market research. Altius uses this research to make more informed investment decisions by assessing both the overall attractiveness of the market and the managers within. We evaluate the various segments of the market on an ongoing basis to ensure that our assessment of a manager's abilities remains accurate.

Portfolio monitoring
Altius monitors all aspects of our client’s private equity portfolio.
Once a commitment to a manager has been made, Altius tracks the performance of the fund with its proprietary FIRMS software. This tracks commitments top-down, from capital calls and distributions, and bottom-up, from individual portfolio company inclusion, allowing Altius to analyse clients' portfolios in a number of ways. In addition to the ongoing analysis of materials received from the underlying managers, Altius regularly visits and pro-actively contacts all the firms with which clients have invested.

Fund reporting
Altius regularly provides comprehensive written reports on each client’s portfolio.
Altius’ FIRMS database has been designed to generate customised reports which include sector, geographic and vintage year analyses and form the basis for our clients' quarterly and annual reports. Standard reporting includes a quarterly and annual review of each client's portfolio, with a breakdown of the financial results of each fund as well as details of the underlying company investments.

Altius believes that such close and detailed monitoring enables us to keep close track of the performance of the underlying investments and to comprehensively understand the status of each individual client commitment.
