Investment Process
The investment process at Altius is multi-dimensional, with particular emphasis placed on proprietary research and pro-active manager selection.
Portfolio planning/construction
Consistent with our hands-on, tailored approach, Altius will always seek open discussion with clients regarding their investment plans in order to work together towards a common goal. Factors under consideration when planning portfolios include: sub-asset class allocations (buy-out, venture, other); geographic allocations and existing manager relationships. All investment decisions are informed by Altius' highly-regarded proprietary research, in conjunction with client-specific needs.
Investment Committee
The Altius Investment Committee is internal and independent. It is involved in every stage of the commitment approval process:
- Review fund due diligence and discuss new investment recommendations
- Review and approve the Altius Rejection list
- Review and amend the Altius Target list of managers
- Discuss and approve of portfolio plans for individual clients
Investment approvals require the unanimous support of all Committee members.
Monitoring and Reporting
Once a commitment to a manager has been made, Altius monitors the investment using its proprietary FIRMS software. FIRMS is a reporting and monitoring system which can track the course of an investment at the client level, fund level, portfolio company level and the transactions between these levels. It has been developed to allow for multiple currency transactions.
FIRMS drives Altius' quarterly and annual client reports (including performance measurement). The system allows Altius to customise the level and form of a client's monitoring and reporting to meet their individual needs.
